Budget Budget

What do I budget for my project?

It is hard to know what you should expect to budget for you project as a homeowner  -especially when you are still trying to picture your new home or new addition.

Best Builder’s comprehensive budgeting system will guide you through every step of the way to attain your budget goals and create a smooth project.  We believe that you should design your budget before you design your home so that attainable project goals can be set and achieved.

New Custom Homes

We have found that a good starting point is $250 per square foot for a new custom home – however, it is very difficult to put a straight square footage cost on a new custom built home, since there are so many factors that need to be taken into consideration.

We will also give you a preliminary budget breakdown of your design, engineering, permits, and build costs before you purchase your lot to help put costs in perspective.

Key budget points:

  • New custom homes starting from $250 per square foot
  • Allow 7% – 12% of total project costs for design fees

Complete Renovations

A good starting point for a complete home renovation is $150 per square foot.  A complete home renovation includes: some foundation work, new exterior envelope, structural changes to change floor plans and layout; interior finishes, kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, drywall, insulation, electrical and mechanical upgrades.  Costs will vary as each renovation is unique and every one of our renovation projects is tailored to our client’s personal wants and needs.  We will take your entire project wish list into consideration before we build a scope of work and a comprehensive budget.

Key budget points:

  • Complete home renovations starting at $150 per square foot
  • Keep return-on-investment in mind when planning
  • Allow 7% – 12% of total project costs for design fees

There are many ways of taking an existing home and making it look new without blowing your budget. By keeping existing structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing components in tact, money and design can be focused on creative simple ways to make existing spaces look new again.  Best Builders will create a detailed scope of work and a comprehensive budget for you to ensure all budget goals will meet your wish list for a RE-NEWED Home.
